Little Acorns- February 2019

A very warm welcome to our new class of Early Entitlement, our new "Little Acorns".

The children have all settled in nicely and are enjoying our wonderful Westwood Early Years unit and are being kept very busy.  We are currently celebrating Chinese New Year.  This year, is the year of the pig. We have been busy making pig masks, rocking pigs and chinese drums ,we have also been searching for the hidden coins in the sand and  washing the plates and cup and saucers in preparation for our party. We have been carefully tracing over Chinese numbers and had lots of fun serving noodles to our friends. To finish off our celebrations we ended with a New Year Chinese party where we had yummy party food and enjoyed a chinese dragon dance.

All children are now taking part in our 'Design to Smile' teeth brushing scheme and are making sure we have beautiful clean teeth everyday!

We are now very excited to be using Seesaw in our Early Entitlement class!  This is a secure online journal where parents can look and see what their children have been enjoying in school.  This will include photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings.  It is all privately shared and within the new guidlines of the EU law General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  All parents have had a letter sent home to sign consent in order for us to be able to share your child's personal information.  Please send consent forms back as soon as possible so we can get started.  Please come and see us if you need any help with this or have any questions.

Just a little reminder that we are now starting PE on a Thursday followed by our favourite time of the week...Golden Time!!

Thank you

Hello All,

We hope you are enjoying the brilliant summer weather and the break from school to restore all your energy levels.

Remember, if you are out in the sun to Slip, Slop, Slap so you don't get sunburnt.  Also, take care if you are near streams, rivers, lakes or the sea.  During the holidays, and especially in the warmer weather, it's always great to cool off in the water but remember how dangerous water can be.

Check out the tips from the RNLI  - https://rnli.org/safety/beach-safety/beach-safety-advice

Enjoy your holidays.

A special request - please can you help your child with their dressing skills, especially with socks and shoes. I appreciate it adds to the time in the morning but it really is a worthwhile skill that will support your child on P.E days.

What's Being Said?

"I never thought that Westwood was so large inside! From the road, it seems so small. What a wonderful use of space. The school has changed so much over the years!" - recent visitor to school
