Nursery Mrs Ryan 2020 - 2021

Mrs Ryan

A big hello to the youngest members of our Westwood family. I hope you have all managed to have a wonderful Summer making memories and spending time with your families!

I am so pleased that you are joining us here at Westwood and we are really looking forward to working with you this year to make sure your child has the best possible start to school life.

We have such a busy and exciting year ahead of us but most importantly we are going to have so much fun along the way!

In the first half term our main objective is to build positive relationsips with all of the children; getting to know them and helping to settle them into school life. For many of your children, this will be the first setting that they have been to and especially after such a strange and difficult time it has been recently we will be taking extra care and time to support your children with separating from parents/making new friends/settling into the learning environment/becoming familiar with our morning routine.

Myself, Mrs Quirk, Mrs Evans and Miss Williams have been busy setting up the learning environment and creating a big, exciting and welcoming area for your child to flourish and grow.

*Outdoor Learning*

As you will know from reading the parent handbook, we will be spending lots of time outdoors and in particular we will have an outdoor day planned every Wednesday. Please bring your child to school dressed in their own clothes and footwear which are suitable for outside learning.

Our first few weeks will be spent settling the children and familiarising them with the areas of our classroom and the Golden Rules. This means we won't start PE straight away. I will inform you when we are going to start but there is no need for a PE kit just yet.

Some of you may be familiar with seesaw but for those who are not, Seesaw is an app that we use throughout school as a means of communicating with parents and sharing your child's learning through photographs and videos. If you have not already signed your child up to seesaw when they were in Early Entitlement with Mrs Quirk, then you will recieve a QR code with intsructiuons of how to join your child's online journal within the first few weeks of school starting back.

Please provide your child with a healthy snack each session. It should be in a container with a lid and clearly labelled with your child's name. The container will be brought home at the end of each session, ready for the following day. The snack should be healthy and easy for your child to eat independently.The snack could include;

  • Grapes cut in half lengthways
  • Chopped fruit (banana, apple, pear, melon, pineapple)
  • A peeled Tangerine
  • Cucumber sticks
  • Carrot sticks

*Water bottles*

Please send your child to school with a water bottle. It should be clearly labelled with their name. It will be returned at the end of each session ready for the following day.

Our topic this Term is 'Superheroes' and we have lots of wonderful learning experiences planned but also look forward to getting to know your children to find out their interests, likes and dislikes.

We will also be focusing on name recognition, developing skills of independence, recognising and reading/writing numbers to 3 and then 5, learning some simple welsh phrases (with the help of Fflic a Fflac) and much much more!!!

We are going to be BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!!!

I cant wait to meet you all!

What's Being Said?

"I never thought that Westwood was so large inside! From the road, it seems so small. What a wonderful use of space. The school has changed so much over the years!" - recent visitor to school
